Hand & Stone featured in The Denver Post

The article profiles Hand & Stone spa owner Julie Bulatovic.

The article included two great photos and showcased Julie’s background, as well as her passion for helping her community through alternative healing. The article highlights Julie’s work with Re-Org and the special deals she offers cancer patients and their caregivers. Dara Purdy, a massage therapist at Julie’s spa, noted that the spa “doesn’t feel like a medical setting”. Eric Bostrom added that he offers oncology-related massages at his Highlands Ranch location.

Denver massage business transforms to cater to cancer patients

Julie Bulatovic's dream is that all people struggling with the aftermath of cancer, and their caregivers, can receive the benefits of massage therapy.

About 15 of her massage therapists — most of those she has on staff at Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa in Cherry Creek — have been trained to give oncology massage treatments to cancer survivors.

Bulatovic knows the territory. Her stepmother had breast cancer years ago and has recovered. But the memories lingered — of the stress faced by her stepmother and the strain her dad lived through.

"I've always believed in alternative healing — and massage is part of that stress reduction, energy collection, energy healing," said Bulatovic.

The massage industry has seen 15 percent growth over the past three years and now generates annual sales of $12 billion. The skin care industry is also made its beauty mark, generating $18.7 billion in revenues in 2007 and projected to grow by 40 percent next year.
Erik Bostrom, owner of Hand and Stone in Highlands Ranch and Colorado's regional franchise developer, is capitalizing on the growth of the spa industry. Hand and Stone is a full-service day spa, and Bostrom's location features 10 treatment rooms in a 3,000-square-foot facility.
"One of the real benefits we have with Hand and Stone is really delivering world-class spa services conveniently," Bostrom said. "We have very affordable programs. Most of our clients see us monthly, and it's less than $50 a month."

Hand & Stone Featured in Denver Business Journal

The Denver Business Journal just published an article called “Business owners have mixed feelings about coupons” which features Hand & Stone franchisee Erik Bostrom discussing how listing his business on Groupon affected his business. Erik says his spa has seen an increased amount of traffic and signups as a result of the 1,288 people who purchased the Groupon. A portion of the article is below and the full story can be read by clicking here.

Business owners have mixed feelings about coupons
By Ed Sealover

Erik Bostrom, owner of Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa in Highlands Ranch, placed a 60 percent-off coupon for a hot-stone massage with Groupon in August.

He was just hoping to attract a few new customers. But within 24 hours, he sold 1,288 of the deals, far more than even the trendy national couponing site told him to expect. He had to ask staffers to work extra hours. And it’s become harder — though not impossible, he insists — to book an appointment at his spa.
